It’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve had a new post and this is because I was on ‘Holiday’ in France! My husband and I spent several days in St. Jean Cap Ferrat near Nice. We went there with a group of friends, so we had to let some control go. Normally we live a very regimented life, but during our vacation we decided to let our diets and workout routines go out the window…for one week only! We’ve been back at it for a week now and let me tell you, my body is aching!!!
I know for a fact that when many women go on vacation they tend to freak out and start worrying about putting weight on while they are away from their routine. Don’t do this! If you have genuinely made your healthy lifestyle an actual LIFESTYLE, then you need to learn to let go sometimes; especially when you go on vacation! Trust me, your routine will be waiting for you when you return. Being able to eat fun French food, drink wine and beer, and not workout was part of my French experience. Plus, my body and mind really enjoyed the break. Your body will also respond better when you get back. Your muscles and metabolism go into shock and kick into high gear after some time off. Plus, with that added water weight from all that bread and beer, you’re going to have some extra motivation to really kill it in the gym. But, here are some things NOT to do when you return to real life:
1. Don’t Freak Out! You come back, weigh yourself, and find that you’ve gained 10 lbs. since the day you left! You freak out, reduce your calorie intake to unhealthy levels and start spending 3 hours a day in the gym with most of that being cardio. This situation is a big ‘no no!’ The best thing to do is to just jump right back into your healthy routine. If it was working before you left for your trip, it will work now. And let’s be real, no one puts on 10 lbs. of fat in a few days. Most of this weight is going to be water weight and it will drop shortly after you start your routine again.
2. All is Not Lost! Many women might come back, weigh themselves, and find that they have gained 10 lbs. since they left for their trip. Because of this they think “What’s the point?” and therefore they drop their healthy routine. They stop going to the gym and they stop eating well because they have either lost motivation or created new habits over their holiday away. Don’t worry, all is not lost! The key is to jump back into your healthy routine as quickly as possible and put your holiday behind you. It was a week of fun, but now it’s time to get back to reality. You have not lost the gains you made before your holiday, they are just temporarily hidden by bloat.
Now that I am back from my holiday, I am extremely motivated to get back into my routine, and I must admit, I missed it soooo much while I was gone! I love my lifestyle. It brings me more happiness than any glass of wine or piece of cheesecake ever could. Although, I could really do without the major DOMS I’m experiencing! Ouch!
